Shane Hines grew up in the trades, learning woodcraft and building skills from his father before moving to Kasilof in 1981. After decades of working alongside respected Peninsula contractors and spending summers commercial fishing, Shane and Stormie founded S. Hines, Inc. to bring a high-trust, personalized approach to home building.
"We aren't a volume builder or a national franchise. We don't sell subdivisions. We work with a select number of clients each year so we can focus entirely on relationships, safety, and uncompromising quality."
"We live here, we fish here, and we raise our family here. When we build your home, our family name is on the sign out front."— SHANE & STORMIE HINES

"Shane's workmanship, responsiveness, and low-maintenance construction advice made our addition stress-free."
We needed a master bedroom addition with a barrier-free zero-threshold shower to allow us to age in place in our Kasilof home. BuildZoom reviews recommended S.Hines, Inc. and they exceeded every expectation. Shane proposed helical pier foundations that didn't disturb the bluff, and Stormie kept us informed every single week. When winter dropped to -20°F, the new wing was completely warm and draft-free.
"In -25°F temperatures, our heating bill was lower than our old half-size ranch home. True Alaska craftsmen."
Building on the Kenai River comes with strict environmental rules and extreme cold weather demands. Shane designed a 2x8 double-stud wall system with triple-pane windows that is incredibly quiet and tight. S.Hines managed excavation, borough permits, septic, and finish trim seamlessly. Shane and Stormie are honest, hands-on, and proud of what they build.
"The floor heat keeps my tools and river boat warm even when it's -30° outdoors. Worth every single penny."
I needed a 2,100 sq ft shop with 14-foot overhead door clearances for my boat and heavy equipment. S.Hines handled everything: concrete slab with 4-inch EPS sub-foam insulation, hydronic tubing, framing, and metal siding. They hit every deadline and kept the site clean. You won't find a better contractor on the Peninsula.
