Building Homes, Not Just Houses

Why hands-on craftsmanship, cold-climate thermal engineering, and keeping our project capacity selective protects your family's investment on the Kenai Peninsula.

The Philosophy Behind 'Not Just Houses'

A structure is just lumber, sheetrock, and nails. A true Alaska home is designed around your daily routines, your views, extreme wind loads, winter heating efficiency, and how your family actually lives through dark sub-zero winters. We build spaces that feel grounded, durable, and personal.

Why We Stay Hands-On & Limit Project Volume

S.Hines, Inc. intentionally does not run ten crews at once. Shane Hines is on the jobsite, driving nails, inspecting vapor barriers, and verifying framing integrity. Our sweet spot is anchoring our season around one flagship custom build with select high-end remodels, heated shops, and additions built to craftsman standards.

Cold-Climate Thermal Integrity Over Builder-Grade Shortcuts

Speculative builders often build to minimum code standards. In Southcentral Alaska, minimum code means high heating fuel bills, cold floors, and ice damming. We build double-stud R-38 walls, R-60 attic envelopes, continuous HRV air exchanges, and meticulously sealed vapor barriers to keep heating costs low all winter.

Long-Term Client Relationships

More than 80% of our business comes from word-of-mouth referrals and repeat clients who return years later for shops, decks, or additions. When your family name is on the company truck, craftsmanship is personal. We treat every home as if our own family were living in it.
